From the humble beginnings in 2000, Marmilade evolved out of my studio at home, on the beautiful sunshine coast. My love of colour, fashion, surfing, and fun combined with my relaxed lifestyle reflects in my clothing.
Marmilade is made up of happy, eye catching pieces that make a woman feel beautiful, no matter what your age or size (as you will see by looking at the real life page)… All items are individually handmade right here on the sunshine coast.. 100% Australian Made.. from beautiful stretch laces, exquisite embroidery, gorgeous trims, and many beautiful bits “n” peices that I have collected over time and on trips overseas.
I love what I do, and I take great pleasure making others feel gorgeous, happy, and pretty in my creations…. Enjoy! – Nicole
Iconic Sunshine Coast label Marmilade is the brainchild of designer Nicole Lynch; a self-confessed surfer gal and busy mum of two who loves playing with the fabrics, embroidery, trims and vintage laces she uses to create her gorgeous girly garments.
“I love colour and really set out to make my clothes cheerful – they’re good mood pieces that make women feel happy,” says Nicole, “And the lace and embellishments feel fabulously feminine.”
She patchworks her stunning clothes one garment at a time so each piece is an individually handcrafted one-off.
A stallholder at Eumundi Markets for 12 years, Nicole began while studying for a fashion diploma. “I found a photo the other day and it’s pretty funny to look at – I’d only made about five bags, six skirts and eight tops and I looked like such a beginner – but I had such a great response from the outset that I knew I was on the right track,” she shares.
The label has grown ever since and Nicole recently launched a Mini Marmilade range too. Now Nicole is working on a collection – that she describes intriguingly as “Frida Kahlo meets Gidget” – using laces and trims she discovered on a recent trip abroad.
“Some of the new clothes will be over the top – with fringing and Mexican flower motifs. I’ll also create more subdued pieces with earthy brown and soft pink guipure laces, with embellished denim,” she says.
Nicole feels blessed she gets to do what she loves for a living. “I work from home, spend time with my family, then escape to the markets.
“It’s at Eumundi that I get to meet my customers face-to-face, indulge in yummy food and have cups of tea in peace without my two littlies – for the whole day!”
Not a bad day at the office.
